Why You Might Fear Personal Training (and Don’t Have To)

In our last blog, we talked about the ways a personal trainer can help you make the most of your active lifestyle. We’re familiar with many of the reasons why people stop themselves from hiring personal trainers. Unfortunately, these reasons prevent people from achieving their fitness potential. We encourage you to read through our list and see if any of these doubts are familiar to you!

What Can I Expect?

Any new experience can be unnerving. If you’ve only watched fitness reality shows or you’ve been traumatized by a former trainer, it’s easy to imagine everything going badly. The fact is, you get to choose your trainer, and you can choose the one that actually helps you. Here are some ideas to make sure you get the right trainer for you:

Communicate what you’re afraid of

Don’t keep your fears to yourself and hope your trainer does everything right. Instead, clear the air immediately by sharing. You can even write down questions and concerns and get them answered.

Watch for warning signs

When you meet with your trainer for the first time, listen closely. If the trainer fails to fully address your health history and ask questions, you should be cautious. And if he or she says anything about making clients cry or puke, find someone else.

Do some research

You can gather recommendations from friends or reviews online to ensure you’re getting a trainer who’s put in the work to get a good reputation.

I’ve Had a Bad Experience

Personal training has its share of unwise trainers who make it their goal to push their clients too far. Some do it because they think it’s what clients want. Others do it when a client asks them to without knowing just how bad it’s going to be.
