Pilates clothing should be comfortable, fitted enough to move with you, and designed to help you feel confident while staying supported. Whether you're doing Mat Pilates or Reformer work, the focus is on body awareness, breath, and controlled movement — so your clothes should allow freedom and safe alignment.
Recommended for Pilates:
Fitted top or tank (not too loose — instructors need to see your form)
Leggings or fitted workout pants (avoid wide or flowing pants near the Reformer)
Grip socks (especially for Reformer — they improve traction and safety)
Light layer or zip-up for warm-up and cool-down
Avoid:
Baggy clothes (they make it harder to move and harder to cue alignment)
Shorts that ride up
Clothing with zippers (they can damage Reformer upholstery)
Hair & accessories
Tie hair back securely
Avoid dangling jewelry
Minimal strong fragrances for shared studio comfort
Bottom line: Wear breathable, flexible clothing that lets you move confidently and stay focused. Your instructor will always help you feel comfortable and set up for success.
